Legacy of the Moapa Stake
"...When the Moapa Stake was organized in 1912 its boundaries included the entire geographical area of Lincoln and Clark Counties. There were just six wards. Two in Lincoln County, Panaca, the oldest ward in the state, and Alamo, and four in Clark County, Mesquite and Bunkerville in the Virgin Valley and Overton and St. Thomas in the Muddy (Moapa) Valley. There were just 1300 members of the Stake. That was the Latter Day Saint Church in Southern Nevada. Ninety years later, in the same geographic area there are now more than eighty thousand members of the Church located in 22 Stakes and 210 Wards. There are two full time Missions and a Temple. The history of that growth is a fascinating story. It is a legacy that comes from the faith and sacrifice of those early pioneer who came to the place called, "The Muddy."
